and Lloyd Martin – Intonate Schemes

Exhibition on Display: March 25, 2023 – April 26, 2023

William Campbell Gallery is pleased to present three new exhibitions to open on FWADA Spring Gallery Night, March 25, 2023. Two solo exhibitions at the new gallery location 217 Foch Street include the debut of the gallery’s newest artist, Lee Albert Hill in Semiospheres, and artist Lloyd Martin’s new collection of vibrant works in Intonate Schemes. 4935 Byers Ave will feature Bernd Haussmann in Awe.

Lee Albert Hill is a Texas-based painter, architect, and writer who has been creating art for over 25 years. His paintings are housed in several corporate collections and he is a two-time finalist for the Huntington Art Prize and the recent recipient of the James R Wooten Service Award for AIA in 2023. Hill’s architectural background shines through these illustrious paintings as his style is defined by his unique composition with hard edges and abstraction. His works are geometric, yet round, allowing the colors and shapes to lead the eye across the sections of the paintings. Lee received his B.A. from Texas Tech in 1986 and became an architect by trade. Lee is Project Director at the Fort Worth based architecture firm, VLK. Semiosphere, Hill describes as: “A space where signs, symbols, and writings produce sense and experience – like a gallery space. Unlike an atmosphere the natural order are determinants.”

Lloyd Martin’s newest collection of vibrant, rhythmically constructed, and evolved paintings comprise: Intonate Schemes at 217 Foch St. Martin is celebrated and has had accolades in the New York Times, the Sun, and the Huffington Post to name a few. His work is in the collection of the Cleveland Museum of Art. The paintings are executed in vivid and layered colors of compositions laid out in a complex, undulating geometric, flow of lines. His works maintain a translucent “under-color which are the ghosts of the central image” describes Martin. These lines exude his unique tracing and translucent methodology. The paintings in the exhibition are a compilation of the evolution of his work and are the result of his continuous process.
