EXHIBITION ON VIEW: FEBRUARY 8 – MARCH 15, 2025
William Campbell Gallery is thrilled to announce Randall Reid: A Retrospective, a compelling exhibition that highlights over four decades of the renowned artist’s career. The exhibition will run from February 8 – March 15, 2025, and will showcase Reid’s unique approach to mixed-media art, which transforms found materials into captivating works of profound historical and emotional depth. An opening reception will be held in Randall’s honor, a near twenty year partner to the Gallery, at 217 Foch Street on Saturday, February 8th, from 5:00-8:00pm.
Born in Fort Worth, Texas, Randall Reid is an internationally acclaimed artist and educator, celebrated for his mastery in recontextualizing found objects into innovative compositions. His works have been featured in over 300 exhibitions across the United States and abroad, and they are held in prestigious collections including the American Embassy in Kuwait, the Arkansas Art Center, and the Austin Museum of Art.
Reid’s art reflects his fascination with time, memory, and texture. His use of weathered wood, tin, and steel preserves the essence of the materials’ histories while crafting a modern visual language. This retrospective offers a comprehensive view of Reid’s evolution as an artist, from early experiments in abstract landscapes, drawings and works on paper, to his acclaimed collages and sculptures that meld minimalism with nostalgia.
His modular collages of found objects offer meditations on the passage of time, the effects of chance and the plastic nature of memory. He deconstructs, transforms and freezes materials – layers of rusted rake tines, antique rulers and weathered croppings of metal signs – into new incarnations; objects extracted from the past and imbued with its presence.
In addition to his artistic achievements, Reid has dedicated over 30 years to teaching at Texas State University in San Marcos, where he has inspired countless students with his passion for art and design. Reid’s accolades include several significant solo exhibitions and recognition for his contributions to contemporary art.
“Randall Reid’s work is a testament to the transformative power of art,” said Misty Locke, Gallery Director. “This retrospective is an opportunity to immerse yourself in his extraordinary vision, where each piece carries echoes of history and humanity.”
Randall Reid states: “I am deeply honored to present this retrospective at William Campbell Gallery, a space that has long supported my artistic journey and vision. Partnering for almost 20 years with William Campbell Gallery has allowed me to share my exploration of memory, time, and materiality with a community that has been central to my creative evolution over the years, and reflecting on over four decades of my work through this retrospective feels as if i have come full circle, to a home that has supported me in so many ways."
Please join us at the William Campbell Gallery to celebrate the unique artistry of Randall Reid.
